The Millennials are very different from their predecessors, but surprisingly similar to the generation that comes immediately after them (Generation Z, the digital natives).

This last generation born in the 20th century has been described as open-minded, optimistic, supportive of equal rights for minorities, self-expressive, liberal and receptive to new ideas and ways of living. Being raised under the slogan “follow your dreams” and being told they can achieve what they wish for, they are confident and positive.

Having received constant praise from their parents, they expect gratification & recognition for their working efforts. But this doesn’t mean that they are willing to sacrifice their personal life in the career favor. Millennials like to “work hard – play hard” – translated into having jobs that offer them a work-life balance. Thus, they would rather choose a less rewarding job in terms of financial benefits if it allows them to have personal spare time. More than that, many of them are even willing to take a pay cut or skip a promotion to get it.

As compared to previous generations, Millennials are in no hurry when it comes to marriage and family. This have changed because the today’s young adults are concerned about their economic situation and feel that financial security should preface marriage.

Growing up with smartphones, tablets and wi-fi and being almost all the time connected with people and issues that interest them, Millennials are highly active, highly influential, multi-channel, cross-platform sharers. According to Emarketer, Millennials have the highest social networking penetration of any generation, with the highest Facebook and Twitter use rates.
